Section nine goes from the picturesque village Karleby with its historical origins, and on to Mariestad. The trail runs along a gravel and paved road, lined with open landscape, forest and some buildings. Via a forest, the trail reaches the edge of Lake Vänern. Here there is a beautiful beach called Sandviken. After a few kilometers along the lake shore, you reach Mariestad. here there are are restaurants, shops and accommodation. Mariestad Cathedral, with its tall church tower, gives the city a special aura and welcomes you to the start / finish of the Biosfärleden.

Surface: A lot of gravel road and forest path, sections on asphalt road

Time: 3-4 hours excluding breaks

Not to be missed: The harbor in Mariestad with the guest boats and the beautiful Old Town which is classified as one of the country's ten best preserved city centers

How to get here: Karleby is located about one kilometer from a bus stop along road 26. Buses go to and from Mariestad center and Skövde center. In Mariestad, the trail ends at the train station connecting the town to Lidköping as well as on to Gothenburg and Laxå with some departures all the way to Hallsberg and Örebro.

Accommodation: In Karleby, where the stage begins, there are no accommodation options, but it is easy to take the bus into Mariestad where there are accommodation in several price ranges.
